Real Futures is piloting a scheme with SERCO to enable First Nations job seekers to feel welcomed and supported at work.

SERCO was struggling to find First Nations employees. Kevin Stanley, Indigenous Programs Manager at SERCO worked with Kevin co-develop and pilot a scheme to be run out nationally to enable Indigenous jobseekers to feel welcomed and supported.

Real Futures worked with the company to develop a culturally appropriate approach to preparing, training, and employing First Nations staff, including a two-week induction, mentoring, training and welcoming process.

Real Futures pre-selected appropriate job seekers, and prepared them for the training.

This includes all job seekers meeting Kevin and the SERCO managers informally at a Real Futures event. They then go for an informal meal together, engendering trust and a support network.

Job seekers complete two weeks of training with Learning Sphere, and commence work.
They have monthly yarn-ups with Kevin and fortnightly phone calls with their RC. Issues can be raised with Kevin, their manager or Real Futures staff.

Aspirants have vital full ’wrap around’ support to get them into work and keep them there.
